Sign up for Anastasia, the GHS spring musical

CLARA DEL VECCHIO, News Editor

GHS’s spring musical, Anastasia, will be holding auditions this December, on the 5th, 6th, and 7th, in room 1310. Actors should prepare a one-minute contemporary monologue, and a snippet of a song they feel showcases their talents. As it is a musical, dance auditions will also be held, which are mandatory for anyone who auditions, and will take place on December 8th. Callbacks will be held on the following day, and the cast list will be posted shortly after.

Anastasia follows the life of a young Russian princess who disappeared after an evil wizard cursed her family, and her journey to find her family and discover her past.

Those hoping to audition should sign up for a time slot here, and also fill out an audition form which can be found here, prior to the audition. The form gives the director information about past involvement in theater, and your schedule, so they can be well informed about who they are casting. It is suggested that people auditioning should read the show, which can be found here.

For those not interested in acting, there are many other ways to be involved in theater, including tech crew and production team. Tech crew involves building and painting the sets for the play, and moving them around during the show. Tech crew meets once a week for set builds, and signups can be found here. Tech crew signups never close, and the theater program welcomes tech people to join throughout the production. Productions team members have more responsibilities than the actors, but also only meet once a week for set builds. Production team positions include Stage Manager, Set Designer, Props Coordinator, Costume Designer, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Makeup Designer, and Hair Designer. Production team applications can be found here, and are due on December 2nd, by 3:00 pm.

Anyone interested in being part of the play in any way should come to the spring musical info meeting, which takes place on November 29th, at 7:00 pm, and will be in room 1310.

Anastasia is set in Russia, and because of the current political climate regarding Russia and Ukraine, the theater program is taking extra measures to ensure that it is known that they firmly stand with Ukraine. In all of the signups, there is language saying that those who sign up must understand that the theater program is not pro-Russia, and that will not conflict with their involvement with the show. In the programs, there will also be a note about supporting Ukraine, and some of the proceeds from the show will go to support Ukraine.

Anastasia’s past may be a mystery, but she has a very bright future at GHS, as the performances will be on April 6th, 7th, and 8th, of 2023.
