GHS Soccer optimistic heading into week two

Girls and boys soccer have kicked off their season after playing their first 2 games last week. Both teams had a good start, winning their opening game and losing the second game, heading into week 2 with a record of 1-1. 

Girls soccer took on Salem at home Thursday night with a thrashing 4-1 win. Junior Captain Darcy Muller, dominated as she scored 4 goals, 2 in each half. Assists came from Junior Deven Lichtenwald, Freshman Abby Stauffer, and Junior Grace Boucher.  

On the boys side, they traveled to Salem on Thursday night and won 3-1. After being 1-0 down to an early goal, they turned on the jets when Junior Captain Andrew Coelho took it by 2 defenders and fed it to Sophomore Geremy Palacios who tapped it into the empty net. Palacios also got the assist on the second goal to Senior Robert Mugabe. In the fourth quarter, Coelho made it 3-1 from the penalty spot to seal the game. 

After 2 successful season openers, Gloucester then went to take on Masconomet. The girls played Masco at home on Friday where they lost 6-0 and the boys traveled to Masco where they lost 6-1. 

After two big losses on Friday, both teams look to bounce back today against Beverly. Boys host Beverly on their season opener and girls travel to Beverly, both with a 4:00pm kick off.
