Girls hockey ices past players
January 19, 2017
A battle between past and present met on the Dorothy Talbot Rink on Sunday as the Fishermen girls ice hockey team played in an alumni game against past girls ice hockey players.
The current girls team beat the alumni with a final score of 8-4. The Gloucester team held the alumni to a scoreless first period with goals scored by senior forward Sam Cominelli and sophomore defender Jesse Alexander.
From there, the team continued to score with another goal each from Alexander and Cominelli as well as two goals from senior captain Nicole Tocco. Sophomores Jemima Grow and Bailey Marshall also went on to score in the third period.
The alumni made a comeback in the second and third periods to score four goals for their team. Two goals were scored by Stephanie Couture, who graduated in 2004, and one by Sarah Warren, from the GHS class of 2002.
The current Fishermen girls hockey coach, Brittany Devlin, also played for the alumni. Devlin was able to score for the alumni team late in the second period.
The team hopes to host another alumni game in February, so more past players will get a chance to hit the ice.
For now, the team will be playing in Methuen tonight at 5:40pm. They will also take on the Andover Warriors on Saturday at 6:20pm.
