The Gloucester Girls’ soccer team secured its first win of the season and defeated the Winthrop Vikings, 4-2, in its soccer game on Monday, September 22nd.
Junior Meadow Anderson led the team, finding the back of the net three times to score a hat-trick. Playing center midfielder, Anderson was able to evaluate and make noteworthy decisions on nearly every attack. Ava Borowick secured her first goal of the season as a sophomore.
“A big thing we need to work on is communication and getting the young players even more confident,” Anderson said. “Overall, it was a big game for us and I’m excited to see what’s next.”
Jude Friday and Rosie Telep, both Freshmen starters, controlled the ball well in the center of the field, contributing to many influential plays. Senior Captain Geogana Cauthers played well in the forward position, introducing strength and experience to the offense’s starting lineup.
Junior Abby Desmond played goalie as Jessica Harvey recovered from a wrist sprain. Desmond made many amazing plays in the back and organized the team throughout the whole game.
The girls’ soccer team is showing much improvement and potential as they head into their next game on Friday against the experienced Masco team.
