The Gloucester Girls’ soccer team fell to Peabody 0-1 in another loss.
The team started strong, displaying their growth on defense and managing to shut the Tanners out for a full half.
GK Jessica Harvey was strong in the net, making many tremendous saves throughout the game. Hope Castellucci controlled and organized the team from the back of the field. Betty Tellup and Jude Friday shone in the stopper position, shutting down shots from the eighteen. Meadow Anderson and Abby Desmond shared midfield, where they distributed the ball and became influential during attacking plays.
In the second half, Peabody was awarded a penalty kick as a result of a questionable handball from Rosie Tellup. The Tanners scored their only goal of the game off the kick.
“I am very proud of the team and the underclassmen who completed well, and the results showed their hard work,” Harvey said. “The defense put up a fight, even with limited substitutions.”
All around, the Gloucester girls played the best they have all year and showed their potential for the rest of the season.
The Fishermen will be back on the Gloucester High School field on Monday to face off against the Winthrop Vikings.
