The Peabody Tanners have dominated Gloucester since 2019, boasting an 8-2 record in their last 10 matchups. Coming into their only meetup of the 2025 season, the Fishermen had a lot at stake: the chance to break Peabody’s 8-game winning streak against Gloucester, and more importantly, their 2025 undefeated record.
While the slugfest could have gone either way, the Fishermen prevailed in a 13-12 win, backed by an offensive surge at the plate by Emma Carrapichosa.
Gloucester took the lead in the top of the first after a 2-run homer by Carrapichosa. However, Peabody bounced back to score three runs in the bottom of the first off 4 hits and mistakes from the Fishermen’s defense.
Laila Ciaramitaro had her first varsity home run in the next inning, tying the game at 3 apiece. Carrapichosa hit her second 2-run homer of the day, giving Gloucester the 5-3 lead. Aleena Brown hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Maddie Goodhue (pinch runner for Olivia Madruga) to lengthen the lead by three.
On the first pitch of the third, a Tanner homer to center field. Leading now by two, the Fishermen committed another error to score a runner from first base.
An Ava Paone double in the top of the fourth scored Mia Rodolosi (pinch runner for Ciaramitaro). Paone and Kaiya Mineo scored to give Gloucester a four-run lead. The Tanners tied the game at 9 apiece in the bottom of the frame after multiple walks and hits.
Paone singled in the fifth, notching two RBI to give Gloucester an 11-9 lead. Brown and Carrancho had two straight singles in the 6th, but were left on base.
Angela Russo came in to pitch in the bottom of the sixth, looking to give Gloucester the defensive push it needed to stay above the Tanners. However, errors plagued the infield and outfield, allowing Peabody to take a one-run lead going into the seventh inning.
A Madruga groundout tied the game up after Mineo scored. Brown loaded the bases on a hit by a pitch, and Allen notched a 5-pitch walk to give Gloucester the narrow 13-12 lead. Gloucester shut the game down on defense after notching three straight outs.
The game was Gloucester’s first win against Peabody since 2019. The Fishermen move to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the NEC. Marblehead and Gloucester both remain in first place in the NEC.
