A perfect record. That’s the statement the Gloucester Fishermen softball team is making this season. It’s early in the season, no doubt. That’s what 4-year Head Coach Bryan Aiello has said to the team time and time again. Don’t keep the record locked down in your mind; focus on the game ahead. If you don’t play how you’ve been playing, you could easily lose every game from here on out.
But for the past three years, Gloucester’s had unattractive records at the 7-game mark; starting in 2022, the team’s records have been 2-5, 3-4, and 4-3, respectively. Those seasons ended with a record above .500.
It’s certainly too early to tell what the Fishermen’s season will become, but there’s one thing for certain: if the team plays like they have been, they’re slated for a history-making season.
Gloucester had their seventh win of the season over Swampscott with a final score of 5-0. Freshman pitcher Abby Noble pitched another complete game effort, allowing no earned runs and striking out 13. Emma Carrapichosa notched a pair of doubles and RBIs, leading the Fishermen’s balanced hitting approach. Laila Ciaramitaro went 2-3 at the plate with 2 singles.
After Marblehead’s walk-off win over Beverly, Gloucester and Marblehead remain the only undefeated NEC teams this season.
