Last Saturday, GHS was the venue for the Division 3 North Sectionals for the first time, hosting over 200 wrestlers hoping for a spot at the State level of competition. In the end, Gloucester produced eight Sectional placers, with five earning a spot at states.
Freshman Joseph Amero starred in his first Sectional Championship, placing 6th, with Sophomore Jayden Chadwick placing 4th after a series of tough matches.
Junior Zachary Hashley placed 4th on the podium, securing him a spot to States. Sophomores Anthony Murawksi and Aiden Decoste placed first after many difficult bouts, along with Max Thomas who placed second at 215lbs.
Big match of the day came from Senior Chris Laine, who beat his way to the Championship match against #1 ranked Kip King from Wakefield. In the finals, Chris emerged victorious, and secured his first Sectional Championship at Gloucester High School. This win also placed him as the #2 seed going into D3 States this weekend.

Additionally, Junior Joe Allen earned his 100th win; an important milestone in every high school wrestler’s career. His name will be placed on the 100 wins club banner in the Fieldhouse.
GHS looks to add more names on the Fieldhouse banners this Friday in Foxboro, MA for the D3 State competition.
