The Fishermen track and field team faced a disappointing loss against Peabody on Thursday night. Despite the loss, there were many triumphs throughout the night.
On the girl’s side, high point scorers of the night were Samantha Tucker (55-meter dash) and Meadow Anderson (300 meters), both placed 2nd in their events. Ruby McElhenny (1000 meters), Aili Spencer (55-meter hurdles), and Julia Palk (one mile) each took third. Aleena Brown set a new personal record for girl’s field events in the shot put of 27-2 feet and placed 4th. Aili Spencer placed third in the high jump.
On the boy’s side, Landen Cusick (300 meters) and Lyall Cunningham (1000 meters) placed 2nd in their events. The night ended in a thrilling finish between Gloucester and Marblehead 4×400 meter relay teams; Gloucester’s team ended up on top with their last runner, Brenden Smith, out sprinting Marblehead’s runner in the last fifty meters of the race. For field events, Matt Smith also placed third in the Shot Put.
The team’s next duel meet is on Wednesday at Home vs Swampscott.
