On Wednesday afternoon, the Manchester Essex Hornets seniors raced their last regular season dual meet against the Amesbury Redhawks at Ravenswood Park.
The seniors included Sabine Cooper, Whitney Turner, Hayden Remington, Libby McKinnon, Henry Stevens, and Henry Chadbourn. The team celebrated their seniors before the matchup with photos, posters fat-heads, and dessert.
“It was a little sad, but overall exciting,” Captain Sabine Cooper said. “It is sad to see this chapter coming to an end, but exhilarating to think about what is coming next.”
The Hornets put up a good fight, but the Redhawks ultimately took the win in both meets. The girl’s team lost by a score of 20-40 and the boy’s team lost 25-32.
“I thought the boys team did very well today,” Senior captain Henry Stevens said. “Despite the loss, our underclassman runners continue to stand out in every race. I am excited to see what we can do in the Championship part of the season.”
The team hopes to bounce back at this Saturday’s Twilight meet before a long-awaited championship portion of the year.
