The Manchester-Essex Hornets, ranked 5th in Division 4, traveled to Gloucester looking for a win. As they entered with a 7-1-1 record, the Fishermen knew what was at stake. The scrappy game favored the over-powering Hornet offense, who solidified a 2-0 win against the Fishermen.
Both Hornet goals scored in the second quarter, the first from collegiate D1 prospect Abby Kent and the other from Laila Mears. Manchester controlled the game, outplaying the Fishermen for a majority of the game.
The Fishermen’s offense missed two offensive penalty corner chances and didn’t suffice many shots at all. Gloucester’s saving grace was their defense end, most notably comprised of Emma Carrapichosa and the solid backbone of Keagan Jewell. Jewell faced many shots from an aggressive Hornet offense, making key stops to limit their scoring. Olivia Madruga, Elliana Parsons, and Isla Black were a big help in the midfield for the Fishermen, but it wasn’t enough for Gloucester to get on the board.
The game marked their third straight loss after dropping games to Swampscott and Masconomet. The Fishermen’s record drops to 5-6 on the season.
