The Gloucester Field Hockey team had a hard fought 4-0 win on the road against the Saugus Sachems. Sophomore Talia Harrington had a hat trick, which also happened to be her first three Varsity goals of her career. Captain Ari Scola also scored.
The Fishermen had a hard first half, with no scoring. Captains Scola, Ella Costa, Abby Lowthers, and sophomore Elliana Parsons all had good passing and shots on net. Anna Hafey and Jordan Palk were strong on defense, despite the ball barely coming toward the Gloucester net.
The 3rd quarter got hot for the Fishermen. Harrington scored her first three varsity goals back to back with Scola scoring afterwards. Sophomore Keagan Jewell got to come out of the net and take Scola’s place at defensive mid. Freshman Aleena Brown got to make her varsity debut at goalie when Jewell came out.
More of the starting lineup rolled out, with Katy Aaron, Ivanna Ferrara, Emma Carrapichosa, and Ashlyn Orlando subbing in to play. All the subs played a hard game in the last quarter to hold the win and shutout for the team.
“The team did a great job controlling the play on the field,” Varsity head coach Lauren Riley-Gove said after the win. “The first half took us a little while to score and break the ice, but once we did in the second half, the girls really got the ball moving. [I’m] very proud of Talia and happy for her scoring her first varsity goal, included in the hat trick!”
The team moves to 7-1-2 on the season and plays at Central Catholic on Monday morning.
