President Biden calls for unity in inaugural address
January 20, 2021
The Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States changes everything that this country has known for the past four years.
Biden resolves to restore the people’s faith in this country and the ideologies held close. This is a ‘kick-off’ to a new era in not only Washington DC, but in America.
Donald Trump challenged what people in America hold important: democracy. With his blatant disregard for the sake of the country and the people, he brought the US into a time of intense turmoil.
With the worsening virus, climate change concerns, the recent insurrection, and other issues incited by Trump, Biden does not have an easy term ahead. But, Biden resolves that he will not let these troubled times continue with his presidency and assures the people that democracy and America will prevail.
“A cry for survival comes from the planet itself. A cry that can’t be any more desperate or any more clear, and now a rise of political extremism, white supremacy and domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat,” said Biden in his Inaugural Address.
In his address, Biden vowed to reunite the people after the incredibly polarized Trump administration. He acknowledged this will not be an easy feat, but to do so means a lot for the country and what it stands for.
“To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America, requires so much more than words and requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy: unity,” said Biden.
This highlights an important point of the new presidency, which is to unify and restore people’s belief in not only the government, but in the American Dream. The past four years tore at the true ideologies at the heart of the American people, and Biden aims to bring faith back to the people.
“‘My whole soul is in it,” said Biden, echoing the words of Abraham Lincoln. “Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every American to join me in this cause.”
Biden taking office allows the chance for the country to rebuild and reunite, no longer letting the divide sparked by the Trump administration spread any further.
Hopefully, this will bring America out of the pandemonium that Americans have had as a part of their lives for far too long. The goals have been set, changes to soon come into order.
“I give you my word, I will always level with you. I will defend the Constitution. I will defend our democracy,” he said. “ I will defend America.”
