Girl

Girl

April 4, 2020

When you asked

Who I liked

And I said no one

You would look at me

And I know

You thought

That I was lying

When I had a boyfriend

And you asked

Who I had liked

You said

That you knew

I was lying

When I said

No one

I was lying

I was lying

Because whenever the girl on the soccer team called my name

Everything about the day

Would get better

I was lying

Because whenever the girl in my English class looked at me

I would smile

And I didn’t know why

I was lying

Because whenever I saw the girl in drama

My heart would skip a beat

And I couldn’t think about the play anymore

I was lying

Because whenever someone said they had a crush

I would ask them

How did you know?

How did you know?

With one girl’s face

Burning in my mind

And when you asked

If it was ever the boy in swim

If it was ever the boy who coded

I lied

I said sure

And when you asked

If there was ever anyone else

I decided

That maybe

I shouldn’t lie

And I told the truth

And I told you

About the girl
