A cliché in the sports industry reads, “The best defense is a good offense.” It’s often attributed to George Washington, who believed that taking the offensive was crucial for success on the battlefield. Gloucester proved that idea accurate in a 10-2 win over North Reading, using a balanced and aggressive hitting attack to take control early. Aleena Brown’s three-run homer highlighted the offense, with Emma Carrapichosa adding a two-run shot soon after.

The Fishermen took the lead early when Olivia Madruga scored on an Emma Carrapichosa double. The next two innings were quiet on both sides of the bats, with Laila Ciaramitaro and Ava Paone making sharp plays in the infield.

With a narrow lead entering the 3rd inning, Gloucester needed a spark to push them ahead of the Hornets. Ciaramitaro and Mackayla Allen notched back-to-back walks, putting two runners in scoring position. Their walks set the stage for Brown’s at-bat, where she mashed a 3-run homer and lengthened Gloucester’s lead to 4-0.

Gloucester’s offense was booming after the hit, with Carrapichosa launching a 2-run blast to left field and Paone garnering a triple. Dylan Gaetano hit a double in the final inning, scoring Gloucester’s tenth run of the game.

Abby Noble pitched the entire game, striking out eleven and allowing four hits. The win marks her second of the season and her career.

The Gloucester Fishermen will host their next six games at home. They face the Salem Witches on Friday afternoon at Gloucester High School.
