Mackayla Allen - Softball
POTW Accolades: 1
Opposing batters beware: When Mackayla Allen's at shortstop, you won't get a hit down the middle. She'll easily slide behind second base, diving out to make an insane stop to save a run. She'll follow similarly at the plate, providing pop and speed in the middle of the Fishermen lineup.
This week, Allen had a team-high batting average (.625). Not only that, she led the team in OBP (.727), singles (5), and HBP (2).
The sophomore started hot in Gloucester's 11-5 win over Swampscott, smashing a 2-run single up the line. After Swampscott tied the game up, Allen singled to center to help the Fishermen reclaim the lead. She led the team with 3 runs batted in.
She had a single in GHS's mercy-rule win over Winthrop, singling and driving in one run.
Allen had two singles in the 2nd and 4th innings. She walked in the 5th inning.
The shortstop had an .875 fielding percentage during the week, being solid in the middle infield for the Fishermen. No matter if it's a diving play across the infield or a jump to save a line drive, Allen will get it.
Allen has been a huge part of the Fishermen's lineup in her past two years, especially now. Whether she's diving across the diamond or ripping a line drive down the line, Allen is the face of what Gloucester Softball stands for: hard work and execution.
