Amid a messy week of rain delays and rescheduled matchups, Gloucester’s 3-game week was whittled down to a single opponent: the Saugus Sachems. In their previous NEC matchup, the Sachems took an early lead of two runs before the Fishermen locked it down to win 10-2.

While their gameplay was shaky, Gloucester won 7-0 to remain undefeated in the NEC and NEC Lynch Division. Olivia Madruga was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 3 singles and a triple. Freshman pitcher Abby Noble reached 100 career strikeouts in the outing, allowing just 5 hits and no runs.

The Fishermen got on the board in the first inning after Olivia Madruga tripled, scoring two runs. Aleena Brown hit a triple on an error to tally another run for Gloucester.

Emma Carrapichosa and Madruga notched back-to-back singles in the top of the 3rd. Julia Carrancho had a sacrifice fly to score Carrapichosa, lengthening the lead to 4-0. Maddie Goodhue (Madruga’s pinch-runner) scored on a passed ball before a Brown single.

In the top of the 6th, senior captain Dylan Gaetano tripled on a long ball to center field. Captain Ava Paone laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Gaetano. Mackayla Allen blasted a triple down the right field line for her second hit of the evening.

Gloucester scored one more run in the top of the 7th, thanks to a Goodhue steal.

The Fishermen are ranked 8th in Division 3 with just 6 games left to play before the playoffs. The NEC frontrunners take on Swampscott in a Wednesday night matchup to decide the NEC Lynch Champions.
