Emma Carrapichosa and Jaylen Severino are this week’s Student Athletes of the Week.

Emma Carrapichosa - Softball

POTW Accolades: 1

When you think of Emma Carrapichosa, you think of the word power. The junior is notorious for raking, whether it's an over-the-fence home run or a long ball to the fence.

This season alone, Carrapichosa smashed a team-leading four homers over the fence. She's a monster at the plate, leading the Fishermen in AVG (.500), OBP (.605), OPS (1.634), SLG (1.029), Hits (17), 2B (4), HR (4), and BB (8).

During the Fishermen's April Vacation stint, Carrapichosa was perfect at the plate. The first baseman went 5-5, notching 2 singles and 3 homers. She was perfect in Gloucester's first loss of the season to Bedford, where she homered, singled, and got intentionally walked.

Since her move to first base, Carrapichosa has played solid defense, posting a .938 fielding percentage overall. During April Break, she had a perfect fielding percentage.

Expect big things from Emma Carrapichosa for the second half of the season, both at the plate and on the right side of the diamond.

Jaylen Severino - Baseball

Junior captain Jaylen Severino is the centerfielder for the Fishermen baseball team and the second hitter in the lineup.

“Sev," as his teammates call him, has come up big in crucial moments.

Although Gloucester's walk-off hit versus Beverly didn't get awarded to him, his hit advanced the runners to set up Nico Alves to clear the bases and win the game.

Recently, Severino changed the tide of the game after he crushed a Grand Slam against Winthrop High.

Jaylen’s play on the field as not only a leading hitter but also the leader in the outfield has made him one of Gloucester’s best players.

Performers of the Week

Ava Paone - Softball

Last week, Senior Captain Ava Paone played exceptionally for the GHS Softball team, both at the plate and at second base.

Paone went 3-3 against Peabody in Gloucester's 13-12 win, notching two singles and a double. She was also walked twice. She had three RBI and 3 runs scored.

The captain was one of 3 players to manage a hit in the Fishermen's 2-1 loss to Bedford. Her single was one of just four hits.

In the field, she maintained a perfect fielding percentage.

Laila Ciaramitaro - Softball

POTW Accolades: 1

Laila Ciaramitaro hit her first career home run last week in Gloucester's win over Peabody. The junior notched 2 runs and an RBI.

Meghan Buckley - Tennis

POTW Accolades: 1

Meghan Buckley has been one of Gloucester's most consistent players on the court. The freshman is integral to the Fishermen, winning most of her matches in singles.

Finn Costa - Lacrosse

Although the Boys Lacrosse team hasn’t had an ideal season, Sophomore Finn Costa has been giving it his all every time he goes out. He has put up monster numbers, scoring many goals for the team.

William Linn - Lacrosse

William Linn is another boys' lacrosse player who has performed exceptionally in every game. Linn, a Sophomore at GHS, grinds every game, picking up many ground balls and scoring goals along the way. Recently, Linn scored the game-winning goal against Salem in overtime.

Lyall Cunningham - Track and Field

Lyall Cunningham was one of Gloucester Track and Field's best performers at the NEC Spring Challenge. Cunningham placed fifth in the mile and third in the 4x800m relay.
