The Fisherman girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Saugus, falling 11-10 in double overtime.

Skye Berry scored a total of 8 goals, leading the Fishermen in the gritty battle. Meadow Anderson scored a goal off a penalty shot at the top of the first quarter. Saugus was in the lead by the end of the first quarter.

Despite more goals from Berry in the second quarter, Saugus led 8-4 at the half.

Gloucester began catching up to Saugus in the third quarter, following multiple goals from Berry and a goal from Kaya Collins.

During the fourth quarter, Gloucester took the lead 10-9. Saugus came back to tie seconds before the final whistle, forcing the game to go into overtime.

Despite playing with a man down, Gloucester managed to keep Saugus from scoring. During the second overtime, Saugus capitalized on a free shot of shooting space and scored.

“We put up a really good fight [to] mak[e] it to double overtime,” Sophomore Julia Palk said. “It was amazing how we played the whole first overtime quarter with a defense down, and we still managed to keep it tied. And at the end of the day, Saugus made a foul shot, and there’s nothing we could have done about that.”

Gloucester’s goalie, Gabriella Martell, showed improvement in her shot-blocking from the last game. Natasha DePaula played great on defense and in the midfield when needed. Skye Berry had an outstanding game, scoring 8 out of Gloucester’s 10 goals. Gloucester’s Sophia Ferrara hustled and tried to get every ball that came her way.
