The Gloucester Fishermen are set to kick off the 2025 softball season this Friday, equipped with a deep bullpen and seasoned leadership across the diamond.
The squad finished last year with a .500 record of 11-11. After flying through round 1 of the state tournament, the #15 seeded Fishermen took a 0-6 loss to #2 Apponequet Regional.
After the loss of senior pitching ace Cameron Carroll, the Fishermen have built a strong bullpen to take over the circle. Freshman Abby Noble, who has a rotation of over 5 pitches, looks to take over as Gloucester’s starting pitcher. Classmates Angela Russo and Janelle Brancleone are also slated to make big moves in the circle this season.
Last year’s catching tandem of NEC All-Star Olivia Madruga and Aleena Brown will take the duties behind the plate. Senior Kaiya Mineo will join them while also serving in right field.
To round out the outfield, Captains Dylan Gaetano (right), Julia Carrancho (center), and Tasara Frontiero (left) will be starting in their senior campaigns. Maddie Goodhue is returning for her second season in left field.
NEC All-Conference selection Emma Carrapichosa will take the move to first base, with Laila Ciaramitaro taking over third base. Mackayla Allen will start at shortstop after her momentous freshman season at the designated hitter spot. Captain Ava Paone is set to return to second base to round out the infield. Utility players Ashlyn Orlando and Addy Amero will also man infield duties.
The Fishermen’s offensive lineup has enough depth to power them through some of their toughest opponents. Beyond Carrapichosa’s slugging, Madruga’s consistent power, and Allen’s balance of power and contact, Gloucester boasts a solid mix of hitters throughout the lineup. Brown and Orlando provide power at the dish, while Frontiero, Mineo, and Goodhue execute the team’s small-ball action.
The young Fishermen have a lot to prove this season. They open their 2025 campaign in Gloucester this Friday against the St.Mary’s Spartans.
