Final Record: 12-10
Final Place: 27th in D3, Loss in First Round
With thrilling victories to hard-fought and disappointing losses, this season’s Gloucester High School’s Boys Basketball team put together a season to remember. Finishing with a record of 12-10 overall, they were eliminated in a close game to #6 Taconic Regional High School.
Gloucester’s success was thanks to their depth and variety of scoring options. With six seniors, Gloucester’s depth on the bench was a strong point.
The guard duo of Sophomore Carlos Velazquez and Junior Cameron Olsen brought defensive presence and energy off the bench. Big man, Junior Jack Silveira gave presence off the bench when knocking down clutch shots throughout the season.
Gloucester’s best attribute was their variety of scoring options. This made it hard for teams to gameplan as Gloucester had many capable scorers who fit their roles perfectly.
Senior Nick Deleon and Senior Captain Charlie Amero led the Fishermen in points. Their performances earned the two NEC All-Star awards.
Other notable players were Senior Captain Alex Laine, the team's point guard, and a sharpshooter from three. Senior Captain Andrew Cribbs was a player who liked to get to the basket and wasn’t afraid of contact. Two-year Captain Brayden Francis also played solid.
Gloucester won their returning Bank Gloucester holiday tournament. They also beat Hamilton-Wenham and Danvers back to back, while taking down Beverly 77-73 in a hard-fought battle.
The Fishermen won their preliminary playoff game against Weston 60-58 before losing in the opening round.
As Gloucester graduates six seniors and 5 captains, (Laine, Deleon, Amero, Francis, Cribbs, and captain Ryan Madruga), the Fishermen look to expand on their success next year.
