The Fisherman track team bounced back during Saturday’s NEC Winter Invitational meet, traveling to Boston to compete at The Track at New Balance to face nine teams.
Gloucester had quite a few victories all around the board. On the girl’s side, Aili Spencer took first in the triple jump and came third in the 55-meter hurdles. Hope Castellucci took second in the triple jump and sixth in the 600-meter. The 4×200-meter team consisting of Maddie Goodhue, Grace Castellucci, Skye Ciolino, and Aili Spencer came in a close second to Marblehead with a .14 gap.
On the boy’s side, Matthew Smith took fourth in the boy’s shot put, and Leo Costantino took third in the triple jump. Dylan Rochford took eighth in the 300-meter dash, Jefferson DoCarmo took sixth in the 600-meter, and Lyall Cunningham took eighth in the mile. The boys 4×200 team consisting of Costantino, Rochford, Landen Cusick, and Dylan Smith took fourth.
There were some state qualifying performances by Aili Spencer in the 55-meter hurdles, Lyall Cunningham in the one-mile, and Smith in the shot put. Samantha Tucker also qualified for the middle school national qualifier in the long jump and 55-meter dash.
Gloucester will travel to Danvers tomorrow at 4:30pm to compete against Danvers and Saugus.
