GHS Boys Basketball coach Adam Philpott was inducted into the GHS Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday afternoon in front of his family, friends, coaches, teammates, and even his current team. Adam was a three-sport athlete in high school, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. He played offense/defense on the football field and was part of the 2009 and 2010 Super Bowl teams. He is the second all-time leading basketball scorer in GHS history with 1300 career points.

Adam received three NEC all-conference picks for his efforts on the court. He went on to play college basketball at Bates College in Maine. Adam was also a baseball star at GHS as a left-handed power hitter and ace pitcher. He was selected for the NEC all-star team in both his junior and senior years.

In Adam’s speech on Saturday, he thanked his family for always holding him accountable for how he approached the game and his commitment to the team. He thanked them for showing up and cheering for him, his coaches, and his teammates, and for how they all motivated him and helped him along the way. He also told us how compelled he felt to come back home to Gloucester to coach after college.

“I knew I wanted to go home and set my roots in Gloucester,” Philpott said. “Part of me felt indebted to give back to the community because I had gotten so much from so many people at every different phase of my athletic career, that I felt I wanted to go back and do my part.”

Coach Philpott’s playing days on the GHS basketball court may be over, but he is still impacting the program every day. Under his current coaching, the basketball team has had multiple successful seasons, making it to the Sweet 16 during the 2022-2023 season. The team looks to build on that.

He’s been a coach for nine total years and an assistant for five. This will be his fifth year as the head coach. He commands his players to put in strong defensive effort and play with relentless physicality, forcing stops and pushing the pace of the game. Congratulations to Coach Adam Philpott on his induction into the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
