Girls Tennis opens the season with a shutout victory

The Gloucester High Girls Tennis Team opened their season on Tuesday, May 11th. The team won with an impressive score of 5-0 against Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. 

Junior Isabelle Nixon played first singles and finished with a score of 6-0 and 6-1. Sophomore Sophia Picano, playing second singles, received a score of 6-1 and 6-0. Junior Summer Pereira finished off the third singles game with a score of 6-3 and 6-1.

Gloucester kept the lead in the doubles matches, continuing to play hard against Peabody. 

First doubles was played by Junior Bailey Saputo and Sophomore Maggie Sperry, who ended their set with the score 6-1 and 6-0. 

Junior Ava Vitale and Junior Marina Sullivan played second doubles with a final score of 7-6 and 6-2. 

Despite having many players new to the sport, the team came together and made an impressive showing. 

“This was a great opener,” said Saputo, “I didn’t know what to expect going in, but everyone stepped up today. The win feels awesome for team morale and I’m excited for us to keep growing together.”

The team’s next match is Friday 5/14 against Danvers.
