Last Monday, the baseball team won at home against the Peabody Tanners 3-0. The pitching by senior Brett Moore has kept Fishermen on the map this season as he continues to have one of the best seasons of his career. Offensively, consistent hitting at the start of the game led the Tanners to have to look up to a lead for the whole game.

“Brett Moore was unstoppable which led to great defense behind him,” sophomore Emerson Marshall said. “Offensively, we just had a mindset to hop on a fastball early in the count and try not to get deep in the counts where the pitcher could throw his curveball and change up. We started off hot in the first innings and then their pitcher got hot with his changeup and was throwing it for strikes.”

Marshall started the game as the lead hitter for Gloucester. In his first at-bat, he hit a double to set up senior Jack Costanzo’s at-bat. In his first at-bat, Costanzo looked to bunt on one of his first pitches but instead launched a cannon to the outfield to give Gloucester a 2-0 lead. 

The game continued and Moore pitched well for all 7 innings. Having a .5 ERA on the year, Moore did not allow anyone past second base throughout the game. He had 9 strikeouts. Gloucester finished with a 3-0 win after senior Zach Oliver was batted in after senior Daniel Hafey’s fly ball.

“At the end of the day our team wins with pitching and defense,” Head Coach Rory Gentile said. “We need to be more consistent for the full set of innings. Defensively we were able to put enough to beat a really good team. The only thing I want to see out of this team is consistency.”

Gloucester baseball moves to 10-6 and will now travel to vs Saugus. The game is supposed to be held at 4:30 at World Series Park-Belmonte School.
