Gloucester and Wilmington battled for a spot in the quarterfinals Thursday night with Gloucester seeking revenge after losing to Wilmington last year in the Tournament.

The Fisherman field hockey team has been outstanding this year. They are the Northeastern Conference champions for the second time in a year with an undefeated conference record (14-0-1). Among those many accomplishments they have also clinched a number two seed in the state tournament.

In the first 15 minutes of the first half, midfielder and Captain Jemima Grow scored the first goal of the game. Within two minutes, Captain Tracy Wood scored the next goal.  The Fishermen were not happy with just two goals in the first half, and forward Mia Salah scored in the last few minutes of the half making it 3-0 Fishermen.

With the first half dominated by the Fishermen, Wilmington aimed to regain some ground in the second half. Gloucester maintained possession most of the second half, but Wilmington had a few shots on net.

Gloucester’s defense and goalkeeper refused Wilmington’s shots. After an intense half from both sides, Gloucester’s Cate Delaney scored the fourth goal in the final 2 minutes.

It was a strong fight from both teams, but Gloucester earned a 4-0 win, and is heading to the quarter finals. The game will be held at Newell stadium at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday against number 10 seed Newburyport.
