This past weekend at the Division 3 North Sectional Tournament, Gloucester wrestling made history again, crowning two champions, senior Captain Daniel Beaton and Sophomore Michael Toppan.  The two wrestlers  will join alum Liam Donahue on the banner for Sectional Champions. The team also placed four behind the winners, as all six moved on to next weekend’s Division 3 State Tournament hosted at Game On in Fitchburg.

Beaton,(132) and M. Toppan,(182) both had the one seed going into the tournament and both pinned their first two opponents. They both won by decision in their finals match to be crowned champions.

Going into next week’s state tournament, Beaton only needs 1 more win to get to 100 career wins. One of the hardest accolades a wrestler can obtain as you need to average at least 25 wins a season just to have a shot at it.

Sophomore Jayden Toppan,(220) also had a great showing placing 2nd in his respective weight class. J. Toppan pinned his first match, won by points in his second, but later fell to the top seed in the finals.

Eighth graders Jackson Cody,(106) and Joe Allen,(126) both battled through their respective weights as both make the podium and also make history themselves as the first two eighth graders to qualify for the state tourney. Cody placed 3rd while Allen placed 4th.

Junior Tyler Nicastro,(152) came in third. Nicastro started his day off by pinning his first opponent, and won his next two matches to pull out a bronze medal.

As previously stated, the six remaining wrestlers will take on their challengers at the Division 3 State Tournament. Good luck to all wrestlers going.
